Rebecca Norris Webb
Rebeca Norris Webb, es una poetisa, artista y fotógrafa de Brooklyn con seis libros publicados en los que combina textos y fotos, que en otoño de 2019 lanzará su séptima publicación, con la editorial Aperture, y de la mano de Alex Webb (su marido, que le da el segundo apellido), con quien publica sus libros y con quien comparte la empresa Alex Webb & Rebecca Norris Webb.
“La poeta que llevo dentro le encanta poder sentir en sus manos una serie de momentos intangibles”, afirma en referencia a sus fotografías.

Biografía de Rebecca Norris Webb
Rebecca Norris nació en 1956 en Rushville, Indiana.
En 1972, con 16 años, se mudó a las Black Hills, una cadena montañosa pequeña y aislada que se eleva desde las Grandes Llanuras de América del Norte en el oeste de Dakota del Sur y se extiende hasta Wyoming. Allí creció su amor por la naturaleza.
Viajó a Cuba maravillada por la cantidad de aves que había en la isla y lo populares que son.
“Me llamó la atención en un país cuyos habitantes no pueden volar».
Su proyecto si iba a llamar ‘Tres habitaciones’, porque conoció un cubano que vivía en una casa de tres habitaciones y dos eran para palomas y loros que vivían con él.
Estando ella trabajando en dicho proyecto, Alex Webb llegó a Cuba a trabajar en su propio proyecto ‘Esperando’.
“Esperando a que su muriera Fidel, o esperando a que las cosas cambiarán en Cuba”.
Iba a ser un proyecto con mucha fotografía callejera.
Allí se conocieron.
Sus trabajos tenían narrativas diferentes pero su editor vio que sus fotos tenían vínculos.
Así nació su primer proyecto conjunto. El primero de tantos…
Porque primero fueron amigos, luego colaboradores y finalmente pareja, sin dejar de ser todo lo anterior. Llevan casados más de 30 años.
El trabajo más destacado de Rebecca Norris Webb es la monografía, My Dakota, una elegía para su hermano que murió inesperadamente. Realizó una exposición individual de la obra en el Museo de Arte de Cleveland en 2015.
Actualmente reside en Brooklin.
Su trabajo ha aparecido en The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic y está en las colecciones del Museo de Bellas Artes de Boston, el Museo de Arte de Cleveland y el Museo George Eastman de Rochester, Nueva York y ha recibido una beca de la NEA.

“Hay muy pocos fotógrafos que trabajen colaborando, casados o no, y que tengan visiones tan distintas y que se puedan fusionar”, afirma ella.
“Nuestras visiones son muy diferentes, el modo en el que vemos las cosas es distinto. Yo empecé en la fotografía después, me enfrenté a su gran reputación de él como uno de los mejores fotógrafos en color. Su trabajo ya formaba parte en mi mente de lo que yo considero fotografía así que desde el principio hice fotos que no fueran como las de Alex porque quería encontrar mi propio espacio fotográfico de las misma manera que él cuando empezó”.
Juntos, pero no revuetos
Rebecca y Alex siguen viajando con frecuencia al país en el que se conocieron. Van juntos como pareja y como fotógrafos «pero no tomamos fotos juntos el proceso de colaboración se limita a la edición. Desayunamos juntos y después cada uno se va por su lado. Si está en una calle donde hay otro fotógrafo trabajando se crea una dinámica distinta que si hay uno sólo y nunca tiene éxito si estamos los dos juntos. Era un error y nos dimos cuenta rápido había que separarse”, dice Rebecca.

This is one of the few remaining crocodiles in this small local zoo, which lost many of its animals due to food shortages during the Special Period in the early 1990Õs. Even though many residents of this small city also went hungry during this trying economic time in CubaÕs history, some locals managed to keep some of the animals alive by donating food to the zoo.

This is the tomb of Jeannette Ryder, founder of a Cuban organization for abandoned dogs and other animals, (called Bando de Piedad de Cuba in 1905), in HavanaÕs noted cemetery, Necropolis Crist—bal Col—n. When she died in the early 1930Õs, her faithful dog Rinti slept at the foot of her tomb, refusing to leave or to eat until he died in the same location. Inspired by the story, a local sculptor, Fernando Boada, created a special tomb for Rinti and his mistress.
